VI Peel – Percision Plus

VI Peel is a great aggressive peel without the side effects or downtime of other deep chemical peels. This revolutionary peel is virtually painless, safe for all skin types; it requires little to no downtime and is a quick procedure that can be done within 30-45 minutes. The VI Peel contains a blend of a well known chemical peel such as Phenol, Retinol, Vitamin C and Vitamin A. This peel works over a period of time, five to seven days. Once the peel is applied to the skin most patients begin to peel after day two; after seven days beautiful radiant skin is revealed.

This peel improves the overall appearance of your skin reducing or eliminating:

  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Freckles or age spots
  • Melasma (pregnancy mask)
  • Mild to moderate acne
  • Fine lines and enlarged pores

Our office recommends a series of four treatments for more severe cases and for long lasting results. Call us today and discover if the VI Peel is right for you.

How is the VI Peel different from other peels?
A. Obsolete peels of the past, without exception, epitomize the “no pain, no gain” approach to skin care. Before VI Peel, the deeper the peel, the more painful, the more downtime, the better the results. VI Peel is the first Next Generation Aesthetic. It is painless, yet produces dramatic, visible results in just days with little downtime.

Q. How many treatments are required to show an improved look?
A. A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true, restorative and painless repair of damaged skin including sun damage and acne. Best of all, it is a great “preventive maintenance” peel for younger skin that has no visible signs of damage.

Q. Will results be long lasting?
A. Like everything else in life, human skin needs maintenance. The VI Peel’s wonderful results will last as long as skin care is maintained, sun exposure is moderate and preventive aging with the VI Peel is performed three or four times per year. In between, skin care is maintained and optimized with an appropriate home care program designed for your skin.

Q. What’s the critical key to long lasting results?
A. We believe skin care should be “dentilized”, where we treat our skin with the same care that we treat our teeth. Regular visits to a medical professional coupled with daily maintenance allow us to enjoy what life has to offer, in moderation, without the fear of damaging our skin, the same way we may eat a little chocolate and drink coffee between visits to our dentist.

Q. What types of skin respond well to the VI Peel?
A. The many innovations that created the VI Peel combine to enable the entire continuum of skin types to enjoy the benefits of the peel. For the first time, Afro-American and darker skin types such as some Asian and Latin skins can experience anti-aging and restorative skin care that was previously unavailable.

Q. How much preconditioning of the skin is required?
A. The VI Peel requires no preconditioning of the skin associated with older generation peels that can take three to five months.

Q. Does it burn?
A. Not really. Patients will feel a slight stinging sensation for a few seconds which subsides completely almost immediately. The peel is applied topically, numbing of the skin takes place after the first pass. Some patients may feel more comfortable using a fan or cold air breeze.

Q. How badly will the patient peel?
A. The skin peeling associated with the VI Peel is a light, fluffy peel that will start on day three and generally be finished by the end of day four. The peeling is easily hidden by moisturizer. In some cases, the peel is virtually invisible.

Q. What will the patient look like right after the VI Peel and during the next few days?
A. The skin will look slightly tan to red immediately after the peel. On days one and two the skin will feel slightly tighter with no Visible signs of having a peel except for looking slightly tan, as if the patient just returned from a relaxing weekend at a resort. Any pigmented areas might appear slightly darker, which is a good sign. On about day three, the patient begins to peel. The first signs of peeling usually begin around the mouth area, continuing for a day or two. With the use of the VI Derm™ moisturizer, patients go about their usual daily routine. By day six or seven the patient is done peeling and the results are dramatic!

Q. What about normal activities after the VI Peel?
A. There are no restrictions. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the peel.

Q. What will the VI Peel do for the patient’s skin?
A. It uses the synergy of all available and known modes of action of various acids to produce a multitude of positive effects. It tackles skin problems at the cellular level rather than just burning skin off. Thanks to the concerted actions of its many acids and Vitamins, it will help erase fine lines and wrinkles, shrink enlarged pores and build collagen and elastin which tighten skin. It is extremely effective in practically eliminating hyper pigmentation including melasma, the most difficult pigmentation issue to address. The VI Peel also provides excellent results for patients with acne.

Q. How many peels are needed?
A. The peel may be repeated as often as every two weeks, if necessary, for damaged skin. Our recommendation for average skin would be once every three months to prevent damage and the underlying ageing of the skin. The physician will evaluate the patient’s damage, goals and expectations and make an appropriate recommendation for ongoing skin care. We preach the “dentilization” of skin care for optimum results.

Q. My patient has a social event coming up, can she wear makeup after the VI Peel?
A. While the long term goal is to eliminate the need to use any makeup, it may be worn at any time after the peel solution has dried. Makeup should not be applied on the days that the skin is peeling, just moisturizer. Makeup can then be resumed at any time after the skin peels.

Q. What about the hands or chest?
A. Of course! The VI Peel is incredibly effective in removing sunspots from the hands and chest and eliminating the wrinkles associated with sun damage on the décolletage. Your skin care professional will customize the application for each patient.

Q. How long will the VI Peel take?
A. The facial cleansing and peel application typically take 30 to 45 minutes.

Q. What kind of final results will the patient see after a single VI Peel?

A. It takes about four days after the patient finishes peeling for the skin to return to its normal pH and to see the final effects. The skin will look luminous and glowing. The patient will feel refreshed with slightly tighter skin. Hyper-pigmentation will be improved or gone, depending on the amount of damage. Texture will be improved with an overall more youthful appearance. You will have a very happy patient.

Q. What should be used on the skin in conjunction with the VI Peel?
A. Our first line of defense is tretinoin with a prescription line of products that takes the patient through the necessary steps of maintaining new skin. Skin care products appropriate for your skin type and condition should be used on a daily basis to maintain new skin appeal.

Q. Does the VI Peel make the skin thinner?
A. No. By sloughing off the old skin, forcing the body to recreate new skin at a faster rate in a sequence faster than its own rate, the skin actually thickens, stimulating the underlying structure to make more collagen and elastin.

Q. Will the patient’s skin be more sensitive after the VI Peel?

A. The skin will only be more sensitive, if at all, during the peeling process itself. The patient may experience up to four days of sensitivity until pH of the skin is replenished.

Q. Will the VI Peel tighten neck skin?
A. The skin on the neck responds well. The VI Peel has proven to help improve texture and quality with gradual softening of the lines and some tightening effects.

Q. What other areas can the VI Peel be performed on?
A. Face, neck, hands and chest all respond well to a VI Peel.

Q. Can the patient go in the sun after the VI Peel?
A. Sun exposure should be limited and adequate protection with a good sunscreen should be used. As part of the post-peel skin care kit, sunscreen is provided along with a moisturizer. However, the VI Peel was created to be practical. The only days where exposure to the sun should be seriously avoided are days three and four, when the skin is peeling, to avoid uneven exposure. After that, the patient can enjoy moderate sun exposure, continuing regular “dentilized” skin care maintenance.

Q. What about exercise after the VI Peel?
A. Again, the VI Peel was created to be practical. We only ask that the solution be left on the skin for five hours prior to exercising, washing it off immediately before commencing exercise.

Q. Can cold sore sufferers have a VI Peel?
A. Of course. In some cases, medication may be recommended prior to the peel. If the patient breaks out with a sudden cold sore the day of the peel, often the VI Peel will eliminate the sore and medication may be applied immediately after the peel.

Q. Are teenage acne sufferers too young for the VI Peel and would it help their acne?
A. Dr. Kalil originally formulated the VI Peel for his 15 year old daughter who has acne. The peel is excellent for both adult and adolescent acne. We have effectively peeled acne patients as young as 12. The results are quick and very impressive. Combined with a daily skin regimen, almost all acne cases can be readily and safely managed. Talk about happy patients — acne sufferers will love this peel!

Q. Does the VI Peel help with precancerous cells?
A. Yes, the VI Peel, like many other peels, helps to remove precancerous cells. Of course, a patient with a history of skin cancer should always see their dermatologist or surgeon on a regular basis.

Typical results of the VI Peel

  • Days 1 & 2: After the peel you look like you stayed out in the sun a little too long.
  • Days 3-5: The real peel begins. You will peel like never before, and you only need to stay out of the sun and keep your skin moisturized.Don’t pull peeling skin off, but let it peel naturally. Avoid using Aloe Cort cream, as it will stop the exfoliation process. As extreme as this peel may appear, the VI Peel is doing what it’s supposed to do, so keep reminding yourself this is only temporary.

  • Days 6 & 7: your patience is paying off, and the beautiful results of the VI Peel are beginning to show. Whatever it was you chose this peel for — acne, wrinkles, sun damage — it is dramatically diminished, and beautiful new skin is taking its place.

Post-VI Peel Skin Care
It’s important to take care of your new skin. Treat it like you would a new born baby’s skin by avoiding long-term (all day) sun exposure, and by wearing a sunscreen at all times. In other words, this isnotthe time to take that tropical vacation! Also, cut back on exfoliating home care regimens, as your skin has just undergone a good month’s worth of exfoliation with the VI Peel. Excessive sun/UV exposure and/or exfoliation will only put your skin at risk for redness and irritation. If you want a tan, use a Tan Towel and/or makeup for the next two to four weeks.

Treatment Frequency
The first two treatments may be received 4 to 6 weeks apart. Thereafter, treatments are recommended 3 months apart for a maximum of 3 to 4 treatments per year.

Ingredients
The VI Peel consists of a synergistic blend of five acids that no other peel offers:

  • TCA – Trichloroacetic Acid for penetration, deep scar healing;
    stimulates collagen growth;
  • Retin-A – an acid derived from vitamin A to combat wrinkles;
  • Salicylic Acid – this beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is an exfoliant;
  • Phenol – has antiseptic and anesthetic properties;
    aids in skin penetration;
  • Vitamin C – ascorbic acid has antioxidant and mild exfoliation properties

Contraindications
Those with allergies to any of the ingredients above and women who are pregnant or nursing should not undergo a VI Peel.

Pre-Peel Skin Care
The best results are achieved by having a consultation with a skin care professional to discuss the peel pre- and post-peel home care to acheive the best results from the VI Peel and to maintain those benefits.· Avoid all peels and exfoliating treatments, including laser, for a month prior to your VI Peel. · Exfoliating products (glycolic acid, vitamin C, retin-A, etc.) should be discontinued for a week before your VI Peel. Likewise, do not use any abrasive products on your face [and/or chest or hands] that would cause mechanical exfoliation. Men should not shave the day of the VI Peel

Post-Peel Skin Care
The VI Peel has just given you the equivalent of multiple peels. So, for a week or two following the peel it’s best to avoid exfoliating products like glycolic acid and retinols. Avoid direct and prolonged exposure to the sun, and we recommend you use a sunscreen at all times. Do not exercise for the duration of the peel because you skin is sensitized and perspiration will irritate your skin.Resist the temptation of pulling your peeling skin off — it’s important that you let it peel naturally, or scarring and skin discoloration may occur. Manage your appearance instead with the included post-peel kit. In case of irritation, our Aloe Cort cream may be applied to the affected area (keep in mind that Aloe Cort cream will stop the peeling process where it is applied.) Do not use over-the-counter hydrocortisone creams, as they are not formulated for facial skin.You can prolong the benefits of the VI Peel by maintaining a home care regimen that is appropriate for your skin, as recommended by a skin care professional.
